A LOCAL car dealership's expansion plans will "support the continuation and enhancement" of a key regeneration area - planning officers have said.

Clive Brook Volvo on Canal Road recently purchased the former L Heseltine And Sons furniture manufacturer’s site, further up Canal Road, and this Summer submitted a planning application for the land.

The plans, to build a workshop and showroom on the site, have now been approved by Bradford Council.

The business’ owner, Clive Brook, says the company will continue to operate from its existing site once the new site is built, and the plans will create more space for its day to day operation.

£19m scheme to transform eyesore site into 'enterprise zone' is approved

A furniture workshop on the site was recently demolished, and it is currently used for the storage of vehicles.

The application includes space for 33 cars, and the site will operate from 8am to 6pm.

The site is close to the New Bolton Woods development on hundreds of homes and a recently opened retail development - currently consisting of an Aldi and a Costa coffee.

Planning officers said: "The proposal will support the continuation and enhancement of current uses and as such is considered to be acceptable in principle.

"The modern style, form and scale of the proposal will be in keeping with the commercial nature of the surrounding area."
