AN application to build homes on a site off Wakefield Road has been withdrawn after Highways officers raised concerns.

Plans for nine homes on grassed land between Munster Street and Harcourt Street were submitted to Bradford Council by C Bailey in June.

Since then, concerns have been raised about the development by both the Council's Highways department and the Coal Authority.

The site is a short distance from the Dudley Hill roundabout, and Highways officers said: "I have concerns with the proposed site access from Munster Street with it being too close to a major roundabout and fast moving traffic down the slip road.

"The development would intensify use of this substandard access.

"The scale of development should be reduced not only in traffic terms but also to allow a better site layout."

Homes now planned for site off Wakefield Road after industrial scheme withdrawn

The Coal Authority wrote to Bradford Council claiming a Geo-environmental report in the application was inadequate, adding: "within the application site and surrounding area there are coal mining features and hazards which need to be considered in relation to the determination of this planning application.

The Coal Authority records indicate that the site is in an area of likely historic unrecorded underground coal mine workings at shallow depth."

The Authority said a much more in depth study of the site would be needed for them to support housing on the land.

There had also been 11 objections to the plans from members of the public. One claimed the plans would "not be in the interests of public safety" as it would create traffic issues.

Another also referred to traffic, saying: "It is bad enough for us to get in and out. It is very unnerving.

"It would be chaotic."

The application was withdrawn this week.
