JET2 has suspended all flights to Ibiza, Majorca and Menorca for the rest of Summer 2020.

The West-Yorkshire-based airline announced that it had made the "difficult decision" to suspend flights and holidays to the Balearic Islands for the remaining season.

This is due to the ongoing uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the current UK Government advice.

A statement from the firm said: "We are obviously very disappointed to be making this announcement, as we know how much our customers look forward to their well-deserved holidays in these fantastic destinations.

"Where customers are affected by any programme changes, we have been repeatedly recognised for how we have been looking after them, offering the option to rebook with no admin fee, a Refund Credit Note, or a full cash refund and we are contacting customers to discuss these options."

Jet2 says it is still "completely committed" to the Balearic Islands.

It also announced hundreds of new flights to destinations in Greece, Turkey and Portugal, representing almost 100,000 additional seats, to give more choice to those booking, or rebooking, their Summer 2020 holidays.

A Jet2 spokesperson said: "The demand for flights and holidays to these destinations tells us that Summer 20 is very much alive in our customers' minds, and our decision to increase capacity comes in direct response to that demand."

The setback with the Balearic Islands was tempered by another announcement from Jet2 shortly afterwards, that revealed three suspended destinations would return next month.

This includes, the Canary Islands and Mainland Spain, which are both set to restart on Sunday, September 13.

Flights to Croatia (Jet2holidays only) are planned to resume the day after, on Monday, September 14.

A statement said: "Our programme is constantly being reviewed, so some additional changes may occur.

"Where this is the case we will contact customers directly to discuss options.

"We will be in touch as soon as possible, so we urge affected customers not to contact us.

"We thank you for your patience and understanding at this time."
