Accident investigation work continues at the crash scene.

Two people have been taken to Leeds General Infirmary after a serious accident between a lorry and an Audi Q3 car closed the M62 eastbound.

The accident occurred between junction 26 M606 (Chain Bar) and junction 27 M621 (Gildersome).

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "At 8.37am today, police were called to a road traffic collision on the M62 eastbound between junctions 26 and 27.

"The incident involved an Audi Q3 and a DAF HGV. The occupants of the Audi, a 74-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman, have both been taken to hospital with serious injuries. The HGV driver was unhurt."

Witnesses told of their shock. One said: "This was horrible, I was on Chain Bar going on to the M606 at 9am.

"I came back on the other side of the M62 about 11am and it was still closed and the Audi had no roof."
