THE newest recruits at West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue are set to take up roles across Bradford district after a virtual, live pass out parade.

One of the new recruits will be stationed wholetime at Shipley Fire Station whilst the three others will be attached to two of our on-call fire stations in Bradford District. Two new firefighters will be at Ilkley’s on-call fire station whilst one will be based at Silsden’s on-call fire station.

District Commander for Bradford Benjy Bush said: “We are delighted to be welcoming four newly trained firefighters to Bradford District and into the wider Fire Service family.

“Becoming a firefighter is a proud moment and it is often said to be one of the most rewarding jobs in the world, being able to help people at their time of most need and make a real difference to your local community.

“We wish all the trainees the very best of success in their careers.”

They are among the latest to join the service after a recent campaign to recruit on-call firefighters.

On-call firefighters are skilled people from all walks of life who offer daytime, evening and/or weekend cover at on-call fire stations in addition to their normal, day-to-day commitments.

Just like their wholetime counterparts, they work on the front line protecting their community. On-call firefighters are not based at station, but when on-call, individuals must be able to reach their station within five minutes of their pager going off.
