BRADFORD City Disability Football Club Women and Girls and volunteer Matthew Groves Hemingway have claimed prizes at the 2020 FA and McDonald's Grassroots Football Awards.

The awards celebrate and recognise the inspiring work which has taken place throughout the 2019/20 season, with people all across the West Riding region picking up prizes.

The FA and McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards are for people who make a positive difference to the grassroots game across the region and within the community.

Hemingway, who has learning difficulties and is non-verbal, volunteers at a wide range of different initiatives held by the club, Bradford City Disability FC and Community Foundation.

As well as helping develop Bradford City Disability Football Club's partnership with McDonald's Thornbury he has also, over the course of four years, earned an FA Level 1 Football Coaching badge.

This, in addition to representing the side on the pitch and off it, by appearing at fundraisers and helping out with coaching at local schools, has earned him the Volunteer of the Year award.

In both the Bradford and West Riding districts, Bradford City Disability FC has led the way in delivering female disability football provision.

The women's and girls' side has finished as runner-up in the FA People's Cup two years running, with two players being selected for the 2021 Special Olympics.

They will be the first female players to participate from Yorkshire and Humberside in history.

Having started the first girls' wildcats disability sessions in the county this year, their hunger to strive to improve opportunities for all women and girls with disabilities to play football has helped earn them the Grassroots Project of the Year award.
