At the start of August, the UK government introduced stricter lockdown rules in Bradford and other areas of the North of England.

These rules ban people from different households meeting - it also means that businesses such as soft play areas and bowling alleys must remain closed.

However, there are still certain activities that you can do in order to make the most of the remaining school holidays.

Here are five things you can still do with a local lockdown in place.

Enjoy a family meal

The government has outlined that cafés and restaurants can remain open, meaning you can treat your family to a meal or sweet treat.

According to Tripadvisor, the best rated family friendly restaurant in Bradford is Classic Persian Restaurant, which serves Mediterranean food.

This has a 5/5 rating on Tripadvisor and one commenter wrote: “We came here as a party of 13, mixture of adults and children and absolutely all of us were catered for.”

For something a little bit different, have you considered having an afternoon tea?

Miss Butterfinger’s café sells affordable afternoon teas tailored towards children.

They consist of dainty sandwiches, scones and even homemade soup- and adult’s afternoon tea is £11.50 per person, while a child’s is £7.50 per person.

Archery and Kayaking

Restrictions might be tightening in the city - but it’s still possible to try your hand at some outdoor activites.

Doe Park Water Activities Centre are still open for “family bubble activities” of up to five people.

The centre offer 90 minute sessions in either archers, canoe rafting or sit on top kayaking.

Prices for the activities range from £38-£48.

Visit the Zoo

Ponderosa zoo in Heckmondwike is just a 30 minute drive from central Bradford and it’s the perfect place to visit for any animal lovers in the family.

This zoo is home to a variety of animals, such as lemurs, fruit bats and meerkats.

However, it’s important to note that there is a one way system in place and there will be no keeper talks or animal handling sessions.

You can buy tickets for the zoo online.

According to the government’s lockdown guidelines, you can still go on holiday outside of your area but you can only do this with people you live with.

If you want to go on a quick break before the kids go back to school, there are some great campsites near Bradford.

Ponden Mill is a great camping destination in West Yorkshire; all pitches are said to have “excellent views”.

The main pitch up area is along the river and ideal for tents - they also have modern shower facilities and toilets.

Want to holiday here? It will cost £15 per camper or caravan or £10 per tent.

Alternatively, you can choose to stay at the on site bed and breakfast if camping isn’t your idea of heaven.

Watching movies from the comfort of your own home is great - but nothing beats seeing them on the big screen.

Fortunately, it’s still possible to go to the cinema - even during the local lockdown.

Cineworld in Bradford is screening a lot of child-friendly movies, such as Back To The Future, 100% Wolf, Disney’s Onward and Pinocchio (2020).
