SKIPTON Girls High School says it is focussing on supporting each of its students as they go on to the next stage of their education after receiving their A Level results today.

The Northern Star Academies Trust, which includes the high school and also Harrogate High School, says in a week and a year of disruption, uncertainty and adversity, the young people have proved 'remarkably resilient in the most challenging of circumstances.'

Students will be awarded a calculated grade by examination boards, the same as other schools and colleges.

Grades have been derived from the school’s submitted 'centre assessed grades' and rank order, followed by the exam boards standardisation of grades using a statistical model developed by the Office for Qualifications and Examinations Regulation ( OFQUAL), says the academies trust.

It says in the last 48 hours it has learnt that student’s ‘valid mock exam results’ may be permitted to be used only as part of the appeals process.

And that, schools will receive clarity about this new information the week following A Level results day.

It says across both Northern Star secondary schools, the exact same process was used to determine the centre assessed grades, and that it was an extremely thorough and robust drawing on a wide range of evidence of each student’s performance.

Jenn Plews, chief executive officer, said: "We are indebted to our teaching staff who invested a great deal of time and effort, ensuring accuracy and fairness in arriving at the centre-assessed grades. "The integrity, flexibility and willingness to do all that they can to support our children and young people has been nothing short of impressive."

Mark Turner, head of academy at Skipton Girls’ High School, added: "Our focus now is on supporting every individual student with their progression to the next stage in their life, be it university, apprenticeship, training or work.

"We are immensely proud of how our young people have coped in such challenging times and will do whatever it takes to support, advise and guide our students as they go on to the next stage in their education."
