It’s national afternoon tea week next week- and what better way to celebrate than to sample the very best afternoon teas in County Durham?

Tealicious Tearoom, Durham

Tealicious Tearoom opened earlier this week, meaning people can sample their delicious afternoon teas once again.

The tea is £19.95 per person but must be booked 48 hours in advance.

Dainty sandwich fillings include: smoked salmon and lemon mayonnaise, cucumber with cream cheese, local roast ham or beef, and egg and cress with mayo.

To curb your sweet tooth, fruit scones with be served with butter, jam and clotted cream; cheese scones are also on the menu.

To drink, Tealicious have a choice of 17 loose leaf teas to choose from- or a cafetiere coffee.

Treats Tea Room, Durham

Treats has an afternoon tea to suit anyone’s preferences.

The Treats Cream tea is £4.99 and simply consists of a fruit, cherry or almond scone; it comes with cream, jam and butter and any hot drink.

If you are looking for something more savoury, the Strawberry Cream Tea for 2 is £20.90- you get the traditional Cream Tea but with the addition of sandwiches.

Sandwich flavours include: Tuna Sweetcorn, egg mayo, cheese savoury, ham and mustard, prawns in marie rose sauce (extra £1) smoked salmon cream cheese (extra £1).

Hatter’s Cake Designs & Tearoom, Durham

This quirky place is sells a variety of afternoon teas to suit savoury and sweet pallets- you can even choose a theme.

The takeaway afternoon tea for one is £10 and consists of a sweet scone with jam and cream, a sandwich and a cupcake.

If you want to enjoy your afternoon tea with a friend, the take away afternoon tea for two is £26- it includes: two sweet scones with Jam and clotted cream, four finger sandwiches and four sweet treats.

Emma Wardell, owner of Hatter’s Cake Designs & Tearoom, said their Wonderland themed afternoon tea is the most commonly requested.

She added:"We hope that people choose to visit us for their afternoon tea due to the care and extra details we put into it to make people feel special."

This company is participating in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme- meaning you can get a discount on your afternoon tea if you visit on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

Bayberry Hollow, Stanley

Bayberry Hollow have kept their afternoon teas nice and simple, with a selection of traditional scones and sandwiches.

However, chocolate dipped strawberries are one unique addition to their afternoon teas.

The tea is priced at £14.95 per person- but you can upgrade to a boozy prosecco afternoon tea for an additional £5 per person.

A representiative of Bayberry Hollow spoke to The Northern Echo and said: "Our afternoon tea is traditional, we specialise in great quality locally sourced home made food.
