POLICE are appealing for information following an incident in Keighley where an officer was seriously injured.

The incident happened on Friday at around 5.50pm on Ashleigh Street in Keighley.

Two NPT officers approached a Toyota Yaris which was parked outside a shop on Ashleigh Street. There were two males inside the car, but at the officer’s approach, the passenger made off on foot.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said as an officer approached to detain the driver, he started to drive off and the officer was dragged along the road. The car then collided with a tree and came to a standstill.

Two men, aged 28 and 30, were arrested at the scene and a large quantity of Class A drugs were later found, as well as an air rifle.

Mohammed Ayub, 30, of Springfield Road, Keighley, has been charged with Section 18 assault and also causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Both men were also arrested on suspicion on concern in the supply of Class A drugs and enquiries are ongoing in relation to these offences.

The male police officer who was injured as a result of the incident suffered serious injuries to his leg and received hospital treatment.

Detective Inspector Ryan Bragg, of Bradford CID, said: “This was an incredibly distressing incident for the officers involved as they were going about their daily duties.

"One of the officers has suffered a serious injury to his leg, but has since been discharged from hospital and recovering at home.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has any further information to come forward and speak to us to assist with our ongoing investigation.”
