BRADFORD Moor Park has been spruced up this weekend thanks to the efforts of the Friends of Bradford Moor Group.

The group has amassed more than 500 members within a month and Saturday saw a number of them gathering in the park to pick up litter.

Chairwoman of the group, Naz Kosar, said: "Bradford communities are working together to improve their local park, so that people of all ages can finally start enjoying and making most of the great outdoors.

"The group is working with Bradford Council to make long terms plans and hopefully soon children activities will start taking place and adults will be encouraged to take part in outside physical activities in order to improve their health and well-being during these challenging times."

Among the helpers were Councillor Mohammed Shafiq (Labour, Bradford Moor), Morrisons community champion Michelle Webster who also provided refreshments, and 80-year-old Bradford Moor resident Haji Mohammed Qurban.

"There is a real appetite among our local community to make Bradford moor a better place to live and work in," said Cllr Shafiq, who added he will be seeking a meeting with the stakeholders and Council to consider how to make long term sustainable improvements to the park including the pond and make better, safe and secure facilities for local children.

The next clean-up is organised to take place on August 8 between 2pm and 4pm and residents are encouraged to attend.
