A GARAGE site in Saltaire could be flattened to make way for a new store if plans submitted to Bradford Council are approved.

Submitted by Heaton based Universal Properties (Yorkshire), the application is for the demolition of the former Northcliffe Garage on Saltaire Road and the construction of single storey retail unit, as well as a car park with space for nine cars and six bicycles.

The site is on the border of where Shipley becomes Saltaire, and is next to Wycliffe Primary School.

If approved the 140 square metre garage building will be replaced by a 374 square metre shop, although the application gives little detail of what type of retailer will take on the unit.

Work proposed to stop riverbank trespassers in Saltaire

It does say that the new business would create 15 jobs - compared to the three currently employed at the site.

It would open from 7am to 11pm, seven days a week.

A decision on the application is expected in August.
