A cyclist has been airlifted to hospital in Stoke with life threatening injuries following a serious collision with a land rover near Loggerheads.

The incident occurred at about midday on Friday in the Gwernymynydd area and has seen the stretch of road closed. 

The emergency services attended the scene, including the Wales Air Ambulance and the male cyclist was airlifted to hospital in Stoke with serious, life-threatening injuries, North Wales Police said.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the A494 near Mold today, Friday July 10, at approximately 12.02pm.

"We sent one rapid response vehicle, one emergency ambulance and the Wales Air Ambulance also attended. One patient was taken by air to the Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment.”

Sergeant Steve Richards of the Roads Policing Unit said: “We are appealing to anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or anybody who was in the area and who may have dash cam footage to contact us.”

"The road remains closed whilst the Forensic Collision Investigation Team carry out an examination of the scene."
