People wanting to get away for some sun and sand and help charity at the same time should be signing up for a Bradford-only trek across the Sahara Desert.

Bradford's Marie Curie Hospice, in Maudsley Street, is calling on the community to support the overseas challenge - which will involve people from Bradford raising money just for it's work in the local community. Brenda Doyle, the hospice's community fund raising manager, said: "If you've got a positive, enthusiastic and friendly disposition and want the challenge of both fundraising and trekking, this could be the experience of a lifetime.

"A good level of fitness is needed as well as a sense of humour, and you'll be with like-minded people and before you travel we hope you will feel very much part of the Marie Curie Team."

The hospice opened its doors six years ago to provide care for cancer patients and others with limiting illnesses such as heart failure.

Each year more than 1,000 patients are cared for, and the hospice, which costs £7,000 per day to run, relies on donations.

"This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting a taste of adventure and for people living in the area to make a real difference to the lives of people in their community living with cancer, " said Brenda.
