A DETERMINED acting police sergeant is putting his feet to the test to raise money in memory of friend Jordan Sinnott by running ‘5k - every day’ in July.

Acting Sergeant Al Lee has set himself a challenge of running 155 kilometres in July, averaging at 5K (or 3.1 miles) a day to raise money for the Jordan Sinnott Foundation.

Al has set up his own Just Giving page to raise funds for his epic charity endeavour for Bradford-born Jordan who was a close friend.

Jordan, 25, a former footballer who started playing at Shipley and Guiseley AFC Juniors, died in January this year as a result of head injuries sustained in an assault during a night out in Retford.

Active criminal court proceedings remain ongoing regarding the case.

Describing himself as ‘not a natural runner’ Al, an officer in Huddersfield, said he thought the charity runs were a great way of honouring his mate and also trying to do something positive for a range of good causes.

He said: “Jordan was one of my best friends and it is difficult to put into words how much he is missed and the affect his death has had on his friends, family and beautiful girlfriend.

“I wanted to do something positive and also something which would give me a personal challenge, and believe me, these runs are.

“Five k a day may sound a walk in the park to some people, but those who know me will know that running is not something that comes naturally to me!”

Al said the first few runs had been ‘quite enjoyable’ as he had been running with friends and family and had also now run with Jordan’s mum and brother which he said was an amazing experience.

Describing the new foundation set up in Jordan’s memory, the acting sergeant said it aimed to carry out really important work to support both people sleeping rough and also in educating young people about the consequences of violence.

“The Jordan Sinnott Foundation is in its early stages of being an established charity - the aim is to continue raising as much money as possible in Jordan's name to raise money for causes that Jordan was passionate about,’ he said.

“These include supporting those who are homeless/rough sleeping and helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds access sport.

“It also aims to raise awareness around brain injuries and the use of violence/force, in particularly hoping to educate young people so other families don't have to go through the pain that Jordan's family have.”

He added: “I completely understand that these are difficult times and giving money may be a struggle for many people. Please give whatever you feel you can to the Jordan Sinnott Foundation, all help is much appreciated.”
