A couple who met through a window have celebrated 69 years of marriage.

Window cleaner Ken Haran was on his rounds at a raincoat factory in Manningham when he saw a young lady working there. They arranged to meet at the bandstand in Lister Park and have been together ever since.

The couple got married at St Paul's Church, Manningham and lived in Heaton for over 30 years. They now live in Cullingworth.

Ken, 92, and Edna, 94, have three children, Geoff, Jean and Peter, three grandchildren, Katie, Luke and Greg, and two great grandchildren, Joshua and Rosie.

Ken was in the Army before becoming a window cleaner, aged 17. He started at General Cleaning Company, later buying and running it with his sons. He and Edna, 94, have been isolating at home during lockdown, cared for by daughter Jean Holmes.

Jean said: "They have missed seeing the family, but they're safe and well. Dad worked until he was 82. They love racing and used to have a couple of horses.

"They're doing really well - they say all they need are new legs!"
