A man was given an £80 fixed penalty notice for wasting police time after falsely claiming he was a victim of theft.
The 20-year-old, of Manningham, Bradford, alleged his mobile phone and watch had been stolen from him in the city centre.
Police inquiries established the incident had not taken place.
PC John Vinnicombe, of Bradford South Police, said: "All reports of crime are investigated fully and if it is established a report is false action will be taken. People with genuine complaints have nothing to fear."
