A GOVERNMENT planning inspector has dismissed an appeal that would have allowed a digital sign to be installed on the side of a Manchester Road building.

Bradford Council refused the application, for a 6m by 3m sign on 809 Manchester Road, in December saying the LED sign "would be highly prominent and appear in stark contrast to the muted backdrop within which it would be positioned."

Applicant Ben Porte lodged an appeal against the decision, but a government appointed inspector, Dianne Cragg, has now dismissed that appeal.

Inspector backs Council decision to refuse digital sign on Manchester Road pub

She said: "I consider that the proposed advertisement would be a dominant and discordant element in the street scene that would detract from the visual amenity of the area."

The decision is the latest in a string of unsuccessful appeals against Bradford Council decisions to refuse illuminated signs.

Another appeal, relating to a proposed digital sign on the side of the Station Hotel on Manchester Road, was also recently dismissed.

In almost all of the refusals, Council officers have raised concerns about the signs potentially dominating the areas they would be placed.
