THERE were 26 tickets issued, including a hearse caught speeding and one driver doing 96mph, as part of an anti-social driving operation.

West Yorkshire Police focused on the Nab Wood area, and from Saltaire towards Bingley bypass, during the traffic operation, which took place yesterday evening.

The Shipley Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT), two traffic officers and two officers from the Steerside Enforcement Team - the force's dedicated initiative to tackle anti-social driving - were involved.

Of the 26 traffic tickets handed out across the evening, 90 per cent of them were for speeding.

This included a hearse, which was going at 69mph, and a driver caught doing 96mph who was sent straight to court.

Police also arrested two males on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

A large quantity of drugs were recovered from their vehicle.

The vehicle itself was also seized and enquiries are still ongoing.

Officers also seized several other vehicles for not having insurance, as well as using section 59 legislation.

Section 59 allows the police to give drivers a warning if they are reported to have used their vehicle in a manner which causes "alarm, distress or annoyance".

If reported to have done so again within a year the police have the right to confiscate the vehicle.

The Steerside Enforcement Team posted on social media website, Twitter, about the operation.

The post said: "Some great results from yesterday's Operation Steerside in the Shipley area.

"Here's a few highlights from the speed checks that were carried out.

"All were dealt with by means of a Traffic Offence Report or reported to court."

A spokesperson for Shipley NPT said: "We are aware of other locations across the ward that are experiencing similar issues and operations will be arranged at these locations in the near future."
