The owner of a Horsforth restaurant has been fined and ordered to pay substantial costs by Leeds magistrates after being convicted of failing to produce documents to show commercial waste was being disposed of legally.

Abdul Rashid, director of the Golden Bengal UK Ltd in Low Lane, was fined £250 and ordered to pay a total of £3,427.40 in costs.

The court was told during the prosecution on behalf of Leeds City Council that a routine check of the restaurant by enforcement officers found no sign of any commercial waste bins, apart from a barrel containing used cooking oil.

The company was issued with a £300 fixed penalty notice which it failed to pay, which resulted in the court action.
