Bradford City women return to Northern Combination football action at Thackley on Sunday when they take on Scunthorpe hoping to carry on where they left off in their West Riding County Cup first-round win over Castleford side White Rose.

City were always strong favourites to progress to the last 16 of the County Cup but they really should have had more to show for their efforts than the eventual 4-0 victory, secured with first-half goals from Kirsty Russell and Aimee Driver and two more after the break from Russell and Yasmin Ayub.

Although leaders Curzon Ashton look unstoppable in the league, City are still only three points behind second-placed Rochdale with a game in hand so the runners-up spot in their first season back in the Combination is still well within their grasp.

The City A team, who overcame neighbours Bradford Park Avenue 8-1 in a friendly, are without a game this week but sit comfortably on top of the West Riding League Premier Division.

Louise Lindley (2), Charlotte Stuart (2), Danni Domanski, Jayne Barber, Vicki Wood and Claire Popplewell were the City scorers against Avenue while former City player Leanne Benjamin replied.

The district's other clubs going into the hat for the Women's West Riding County Cup second-round draw on December 5 are Guiseley, 6-1 winners at Northowram, Bradford University, who had a walkover after Barnolds-wick Town withdrew, and Howden Clough, 9-2 winners over Selby side Brayton.

Morley have still to play Leeds side Wigton Moor and Keighley must try again at home to Rothwell Town after a waterlogged pitch at Marley Stadium forced their tie to be postponed.

There was disappointment for Shipley Town, going down 3-2 at Goole Town, while Battyeford and Trinity and All Saints lost out when they failed to fulfil their fixtures.

  • The juniors ensured another grand slam' for Bradford City in their last outings as the under-16's won 5-2 over Morley and the under-14's were 9-2 winners at Bolton Woods.

On target for the under-14s were Chelsea Morton, with her fourth hat-trick of the season, Simone Thornton (2), Kerrie Spencer (2), Josie Bower and Emma Moorhouse.
