POLICE who broke up a "dangerous" late night car meet in Heckmondwike have warned they will seize cars if it happens again.

The car meet at Northgate Retail Park had been arranged on Facebook last night with most of the group in general described as "polite and engaging with officers".

"As usual a small amount of attendees spoilt it for the group by revving their engines loudly, wheel spinning and driving to excess speed," Batley and Spen neighbourhood police said.

The sound of the engines could be heard across Heckmondwike.

The force issued several section 59 warnings to those driving in an anti-social manner which will mean officers will seize their vehicles "there and then" if they are caught again.

A spokesperson for team 3 said: "This type of behaviour is both dangerous and antisocial and will not be tolerated on our streets.

"Officers noted the details of all vehicles in attendance and relevant reports will be submitted.

"Several section 59 warnings will also be sent to the owners of vehicles sighted to be driving in an anti social manner. The warning which lasts for 12 months is recorded against both the owner/driver and the vehicle. Meaning if either are stopped again in similar circumstances, officers have the power to seize the vehicle there and then."

Earlier in the evening officers also stopped a vehicle in the Heckmondwike area after a four-year-old was seen hanging out of a window whilst the vehicle was moving.

The driver was educated by officers about the dangers of such actions and issued a warning about the inadequate booster seat which was being used at the time.

Reports were submitted by officers again.
