JUNE 1975: Bradford’s first Lord Mayor’s parade and Gala was magnificently supported by the people of the district as thousands of people lined the streets and crammed into Lister Park.

The city had seen nothing like it before – not even during royal visits.

As the carnival atmosphere took over the city the proceedings began with excited children squealing with excitement. They were not disappointed. Led by the band of HM Royal Marines, Commando Forces, Plymouth, the parade was an impressive sight, filled with colourful floats all following the same theme - “Bradford’s World”.

As the parade, in three sections, wound its way through the city. Bradford became an arena of fun with the mood continuing all the way to Lister Park for the gala.
