A DECISION on plans for 46 homes in East Bierley has been deferred over concerns about a change in access to the site.

Rouse Homes wants to build the new housing estate on land south of Soureby Cross Way which has been allocated for housing in the local plan.

But when the local plan was determined the access was going to be off a track off Hunsworth Lane, which also leads to sports facilities run by East Bierley Community Sports Association.

Kirklees Council's strategy planning committee heard that it was a piece of unregistered land that was not in the developer's ownership that saw the location of the access changed to the north of the site.

A spokesman for EBCSA said they feared the scheme could hinder their further plans for the sports facilities, and they called for the developer to upgrade the track in any case.

Members asked officers to look at the conditions of a proposed legal agreement, and see if upgrading the track and a pledge to hand over the track at minimal cost to the sports association, could be added in.

They also asked that the developer go back and look again at the piece of unregistered land and see if the original access could be reconsidered.

One councillor said the sightlines were better using the access onto Hunsworth Lane.
