PEOPLE who work for the emergency services will be able to get their car sanitised for free tomorrow.

Bradford Council launched a major safety boost for council vehicle drivers and their passengers and other businesses this week with opening of a vehicle sterilisation station at the former Richard Dunn sports centre car park.

The Council has announced that it is offering the service free for all NHS, police, fire and ambulance staff in their private vehicle on Friday, waiving the normal charge of £5 per vehicle.

The service is by prior appointment only and appointments can be made by calling 01274 431000 between 8am and 6pm and confirming you work for the NHS, Fire, Police or Ambulance Service.

Upon arrival all you need to do is confirm your vehicle registration and provide your workplace ID. The process takes around six minutes.

People can get vehicles sanitised at former leisure centre from Monday

The process, vehicle sterilisation, involves spraying an electronically charged mist onto surfaces in the interior of vehicles to help stop the spread of the Covid-19 Coronavirus.

Bradford Council said: "It is an extremely effective way of sterilising vehicles which are frequently used by large number of different people and which are difficult to clean by conventional methods.

"Electrostatic spraying uses positively charged particles to spray a biocide and coat contaminated areas.

"The spraying equipment is easily transported and has a 70 per cent faster delivery time than traditional methods. The work will be carried out by a specialist contractor.

"Each vehicle sterilised will be issued with a Certificate of Guarantee for antibacterial and antiviral cleanse."
