A series of environmental projects has been backed with grants of up to £5,000 from gas distributor Northern Gas Networks.

The company has rewarded six community schemes in the Bradford district in its Northern Green Networks environmental support scheme.

Among the recipients is St Stephen's Primary School in West Bowling which will connect two areas of the school grounds with plants, trails and willow tunnels.

The Forest of Bradford Community Project wins funding for an urban planting scheme aimed at getting teenage volunteers involved with conservation.

Environmental modules to encourage families in Keighley to take part in green learning activities have been funded at the Children's University.

The Friends of Harold Park will install two eco-islands on the lake to help reduce bank erosion and provide fish and bird sanctuaries.

Cottingley Community Project will create a habitat for wildlife and plants, and space to grow herbs, vegetables and fruit to support horticultural learners.

And flowers and trees will be planted by the Friends of Buck Wood in Thackley to enhance the woods' Access for All path.
