PART of Barkerend Road will be turned into a 20mph zone, with new speed tables installed along a stretch of the road.

The new traffic calming measures will be installed along the road from the New Otley Road roundabout to Killinghall Road.

The project is part of Bradford Council's Safer Roads programme and aims to reduce road casualties and "provide a more attractive environment for walking and cycling."

Ten "speed plateaus" will be installed, alond with a number of smaller road cushions.

Bradford Council has been rolling out a number of 20mph zones in recent years.

20mph zones, cycle paths and tree planting - new look for Manningham Lane

A city centre wide 20mph zone was launched last year, most of Shipley town centre is becoming 20mph, and there are plans to turn much of Manningham into a 20mph zone.

People have until Friday to comment on the Barkerend Road proposals.

The Council said: "Safer routes to local schools could be created by connecting neighbouring 20mph zones and the scheme complements the CityConnect dedicated cycleway connecting Bradford and Leeds, which runs alongside Barkerend Road."

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, added: “These proposals should make important safety improvements to Barkerend Road so we look forward to hearing what local people think of them.”

A copy of the plan detailing the proposals can requested from Bradford Council’s Planning, Transportation and Highways Department by emailing: ArshadMahmood@bradford.gov.uk. quoting reference number: HS/TRSS/104488/AM.

Supporting comments or objections to the proposal can be submitted by e-mail to: legalobjections@bradford.gov.uk before noon on June 26 quoting reference: CORP/PCD/AK/406898 (in respect of the traffic calming) or CORP/PCD/AK 406901 (if it’s regarding the 20mph speed limit).
