A gallery which has showcased the Keighley area's most prolific artists for more than three years is closing down.

Gail Cooke, owner of Cavendish Galleries in Cavendish Street, has made the decision after battling to keep the gallery open over the past year while suffering from ill health.

The business has sold works and supported artists from all over the district, and is showcasing the creations of Keighley talent Kath Tarpy in the run-up to its closure.

Miss Cooke will also have a closing-down sale.

She said: "We will be keeping the web-site and the majority of artists will be staying with us, and hopefully once I'm well I will be doing art shows again but we won't be in Keighley any more.

"Keighley is often dumbed-down but we have had a lot of people who have come and really appreciated the artwork here.

"We then feed the comments back to the artists, which they seem to appreciate."

Her closing-down sale will offer 20 per cent off work, which includes jewellery, and will end on Christmas Eve.
