POLICE are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery on a shop in Bradford yesterday.

At about 5.50pm on Thursday, a male entered Old Road News in Horton Bank Top and made demands for money, before producing what appeared to be a gun.

No money was handed over and the suspect ran off.

Enquiries suggest the suspect may have been part of a group seen in the area at the time.

Stephen Hunter, who has run the shop for over 30 years, described the experience as "frightening".

He told the Telegraph & Argus: "I'm just hoping that people, if they recognise them, they'll let the police know.

"I'm just running my own business here, just trying to make a living and you shouldn't have to experience events like that when you're just doing a small job running a shop. It's quite a frightening experience when you get confronted by somebody like that and then the gun appears.

"It's just not on. It makes me angry they think they think they've got some right to come in and demand money when I've been up since 5 o' clock in the morning, working all day.

"I just hope the police manage to identify him."

Anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area around this time, or anyone who can assist this investigation, is asked to contact Bradford District CID on 101 or via the West Yorkshire Police website.

The crime reference number is 13200305201.

Information can also be reported anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers.
