JUNE 1981, TV star Pat Phoenix enjoyed a flutter on a fruit machine after opening an amusement centre in Bradford.
The Coronation Street star, who had played Elsie Tanner for 20 years, cut the ribbon to open the luxury Showboat Centre in Rawson Place, Bradford.
The centre contained over £60,000 worth of electronic wizardry for those minded to gamble their 10ps away. Pat, who once played for several seasons at Bradford’s Prince’s Theatre, was delighted to be back in town. “It’s lovely to see you all,” she told the huge crowd.
