A WEST Yorkshire councillor will appear in crown court next month accused over child sex charges.

Alex Kear, who sits on Wakefield Council as an independent, faces two allegations.

He is charged with attempting to entice a child under the age of 13 into engaging in sexual activity and one of attempting to incite a child into pornography.

Coun Kear, 50, was initially due to appear before magistrates on June 16, but the hearing, which took place at Leeds, was then moved to last week.

No pleas have yet been entered and the case will now be heard at Leeds Crown Court on July 9.

His bail conditions include avoiding unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 16.

Councillor Kear won his Airedale and Ferry Fryston seat from Labour at the local elections in May last year.
