VETERAN Bingley fundraiser Jeffrey Long has raised £700 for care home staff in his latest marathon walking effort.

The 88-year-old former paratrooper is planning to walk up to 100 miles visiting care homes across the district to support the staff.

He is raising money for the Care Workers Charity because he says carers are undervalued and deserve more recognition.

He says he been very well received on his visits over the past few days so far.

"I'm getting lovely receptions," he said. "I have visited five care homes so far and also one company who train and supply care workers. Unfortunately I injured an ankle so it's painful walking. I did nine-and-a-half miles limping one day last week."

Mr Long also featured on Sunday's Jeremy Vine TV show.
