FIREFIGHTERS went to the rescue of a cow after it became trapped in a ravine.

Using a winch and other specialist equipment, they spent more than two hours bringing the animal to safety.

A crew from Skipton and animal rescue units from Tadcaster and Ripon attended the incident, at Low Bradley.

They were called out at about 7.40pm yesterday.

Martyn Hughes, a watch manager with North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service, said: "In what was a very moo-ving incident, we managed to free 'Dalias Dawn' the cow who had become trapped in a ravine near Bradley.

"Fortunately after a few hours, she was happily munching away on some grass without a care in the world."
