BRADFORD ranks fourth in Yorkshire and the Humber for noise complaints, according to new research.

Kirklees was the local authority in Yorkshire and the Humber which received the greatest number of noise complaints between 2017 and 2019, with 10,700.

York (7,700), Wakefield (7,100), Bradford (6,800) and Rotherham (6,600) complete the top five, in the study from Churchill

Meanwhile, the study also found local authorities across Yorkshire and the Humber receive 75 noise complaints every day.

In 2019, more than 27,000 noise complaints were made to local authorities across the region, the equivalent of three every hour.

Despite the frequency of complaints, however, just one in every 67 resulted in a noise abatement notice being issued.

Yorkshire and the Humber was the UK region with the fifth highest number of noise complaints over the past three years, receiving nearly 85,000, seven per cent of all UK noise complaints.

London saw the highest volume of complaints (33 per cent, or 420,000), followed by Scotland (13 per cent, or 165,000), the South East (nine per cent, or 116,000) and the North West (eight per cent, or 102,000).

The most common type of complaint received by local authorities in Yorkshire and the Humber was as a result of domestic noise like shouting and footsteps.

In fact, domestic noise accounts for nearly a third (30 per cent) of all complaints, over 25,000 out of a total 85,000.

Since the beginning of 2017, an average of 23 complaints about domestic noise has been made across the region every single day.

Completing the top five causes for noise complaints were; animal noises like dogs barking, which account for 20 per cent, or 17,000 complaints over the past three years, noise from music and parties (12 per cent or 10,500), noise from commercial premises (nine per cent or 7,400) and noise from intruder alarms (five per cent or 4,000).
