A PRESTIGIOUS list of Bradfordians are in line to be named as the icon of Yorkshire in an online competition.

David Hockney, Sir Titus Salt and the Bronte sisters are in the frame for Welcome to Yorkshire’s icons of the county World Cup tournament on social media.

In the first round of action in the contest, launched today, with each looking for votes on social media, Sir Titus will take on Sheffield-based band, Arctic Monkeys.

Other opening round battles see Bradford’s legendary artist Hockney take on Paralympian Hannah Cockcroft.Another clash will see the Bronte sisters take on Sally Wainwright, who has written a host of TV dramas including Gentleman Jack and Happy Valley.

There are 32 Yorkshire names battling in the first round with others including England cricket captain Joe Root, actress Dame Judi Dench and Spice Girl Mel B.

The winner of the competition’s final will be announced on Sunday, June 14.
