Two teenagers have denied racially aggravated offences after they were arrested by police investigating a social media video which appears to show a black boy being taunted.

The 17-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl appeared before magistrates in Leeds today, West Yorkshire Police confirmed.

They were arrested after a video was widely circulated on social media showing a black youngster being taunted by white youths.

The Snapchat video, which has been viewed more than 1.5 million times on Twitter, shows a white teenage boy and a white teenage girl repeatedly shouting at the black boy to kneel and kiss their shoes.

The boy is also seen to be slapped in the footage which police believe was shot at Holmfirth Cricket Club, in Kirklees, on Tuesday.

A police spokesman said the 17-year-old male appeared charged with a racially aggravated public order offence on a 16-year-old boy, and a racially aggravated assault on a 17-year-old-year old boy.

He said the 16-year-old female appeared charged with an offence of racially aggravated assault on the 17-year-old year old boy.

The defendants, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded not guilty to the offences and were bailed to appear before Leeds Youth Court on June 29, the spokesman said.

He said: "West Yorkshire Police would like to advise that this case is active under the Contempt of Court Act and any video or imagery of the alleged offences should not be shared."
