A FOOTBALL club left frustrated by people using their ground during lockdown has released images of the damaged caused.

Volunteers at Brighouse Town have noticed a number of instances of people trespassing on their private land, scaling a high fence to gain access.

Stadium manager Darren Laycock said there had been an increase in groups of children and young adults playing football there or drinking alcohol in the dugouts and causing damage.

The images show damaged fence panels, a broken lock on a gate, and damage to goal posts.

Brighouse Town plea: stay away from football ground during lockdown

The club reported the issue to the police after more than 50 bottles were found in the grounds after the weekend.

Club officials are urging people to stay away and warn further intruders will be reported.

Mr Laycock said: "We've had to start padlocking the goal posts up, so they can't use them, but now they are being damaged as the groups try to pull them apart.

"They are also damaging the repairs that we've done to the grass.

"There was such a large group last weekend that people thought we'd started training again. But it's not us."

In April the non-league club launched a crowdfunding effort to try and raise £10,000 to see them through the shut down due to coronavirus. So far they have raised around £4,600.
