A POSTWOMAN was allegedly shot in the face while delivering mail in Keighley.
The 52-year-woman was on a round in Spring Bank Rise when the incident occurred, at about 1.30pm yesterday.
She was taken to hospital for treatment. The extent of her injuries are not known.
Police have been studying images from CCTV cameras in the area and are appealing for witnesses, or anyone with information, to come forward.
Two people, an 18-year-old man and a juvenile, have been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation.
Royal Mail says it has suspended postal deliveries in the Spring Bank Rise area to safeguard its delivery staff.
The company added it would work with police to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify whoever was responsible.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "We are investigating an incident which occurred on Spring Bank Rise in Keighley yesterday afternoon, in which a postal worker received facial injuries consistent with an air weapon.
"The 52-year-old woman was taken to hospital for treatment and CCTV enquiries have been conducted in the local area.
"Two males, an 18-year-old and a juvenile, were subsequently arrested and enquiries remain ongoing.
"Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact the non-emergency number 101 quoting reference 1096 of 03/06 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111."
