A thousand balloons will be released into Bradford's sky as a symbolic gesture to celebrate parents and children who have risen to new heights after taking part in the Parental Involvement Programme.
Bradford Council's Parental Involvement team is organising the special event in Centenary Square on Friday, November 30, which will also be the end of Parental Involvement Week.
About 200 pupils, parental involvement workers and parents have been invited to the celebration which will include entertainment by a steel band and a civic reception in City Hall.
The colourful balloons will be released from 2pm in batches of 200 and each one will be attached with an address for each participating school. The school whose balloon travels the furthest will receive a prize.
The Parental Involvement Programme (PIP) was set up in 2003 to help encourage parents to take an active role in their children's education.
