A BUSINESS has lodged an appeal against Bradford Council's decision to refuse retrospective plans for a chai tea stall.

The Chaii Wali stall has been running from a unit next to Aunt Betty’s Fish and Chip Shop on Little Horton Lane since last Summer.

But in April planning officers at Bradford Council refused the application, claiming the business was a “threat to the safe and free flow of traffic.”

They said the business did not provide enough parking, and that there had been traffic issues due to 'indiscriminate parking' around the business.

Naveed Aslam from Aunt Betty's has now launched an appeal against that decision.

The appeal argues that the chai tea stall is an extension of the fish and chip shop, and would share customers with the existing business, rather than attract new ones.

It says: "The actual proposal is a modest tea kiosk which would share existing customers from the fish and chip shop and has an internal staff only floor area of 11.5m2 with a zero customer floor space increase.

"This is due to the customer floor space is that of the existing business and we feel in this case should be assessed as a neutral increase of vehicles requirements as that of a small business extension."

Despite the planning permission being refused, the business can remain open until a decision is made on the appeal.
