A YORKSHIRE-based service which supports LGBTQ young people is still looking to celebrate Pride despite the lockdown.

Positive Identities, which has represented Barnardo’s and attended Pride celebrations all over the country for several years, will have a ‘float’ and be virtually attending Pride For All between June 4 and 7.

The festival, organised by PinkNews, will feature four days of content with celebrities, influencers and politicians.

During lockdown, the service is currently operating remotely and is accepting referrals by email via positive.identities@barnardos.org.uk and telephone 01422 371 993.

And during the build up to Pride they have produced a video for the young people they work with to really get an understanding of how Pride developed and why there is still a need for it.

It includes art work, poetry and animations by young people and their families who use the service.

It was produced by Caroline Morreale, who said: “It was lovely to involve our young people and their families in making the video.

“It is introduced by one of our young people Phoebe and explores what Pride means to everyone involved. My friend Daniel Calvert who is a film maker based in Tokyo, kindly donated his time and resources to edit it together and put the final touches on it.”

In addition to the Pride work, art packs have been provided to the young people who have one-to-one support, along with art resources for young people and Pride themed activities through socially distanced deliveries.

One-to-one support around gender and sexual identity issues has continued over video and phone with a weekly video virtual youth group.

Positive Identities works with LGBTQ children and young people aged between five and 25 in West and North Yorkshire so they can feel safer and more supported, with improved mental health and well-being.
