SHIPLEY’S outdoor market will re-open on Monday as some lockdown restrictions are lifted.

Bradford Council says it is working with traders at the town centre market to “ensure a safe and successful reopening.

Changes to normal service will include changes to the stalls layout and new signage to remind customers how to stay safe when waiting to be served.

Customers will also be asked to make contactless payment if they can.

Monday will see the town’s weekly second hand market, with general goods on sale on the following Friday and Saturday.

The move to open Shipley Open Market is part of Bradford Council’s broader #TogetherBradfordCan plans to restart the district’s shopping areas and wider economy.

Bid to open new bar in Shipley town centre

The Government recently announced several lockdown restrictions on business would soon be lifted. Open air markets and car dealerships are the first that will be allowed to re-open from June 1.

There are opportunities for new traders to sell their goods and new applications for stalls can be made by contacting Bradford Markets at bradford.markets@bradford.gov.uk or by submitting an application via www.bradfordmarkets.com.

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: “We are very pleased allow the Shipley Open Markets to begin trading again.

“This is a great opportunity for stallholders and retailers to start to begin trading in a safe and open air environment so we welcome enquiries from anyone who would like the chance to sell goods in advance of the opening up of the broader retail sector.”
