BRADFORD 2025 has announced two job vacancies as part of its bid to be City of Culture.

The bid team is looking for a Programme and Community Co-ordinator with experience of working with a wide range of people including community groups, volunteers and artists, advisers and cultural organisations. The post is to help develop the 2025 bid programme; ensuring that district-wide community engagement and outreach activities are at the heart of it.

The other vacancy is for a PR and Marketing Manager, a role that involves working with steering group members, volunteers and other members of the team to develop, manage and promote Bradford 2025.

The City of Culture competition is run by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. Bradford is competing for the 2025 title with Lancashire, Medway and Southampton. Previous winners were Londonderry (2013), Hull (2017) and Coventry (2021).

Bradford’s 2025 team has been holding online workshops for people to share ideas and responses to the bid, and the information will be used to help shape the coming campaign programme.

Bid director Richard Shaw says the “creative ideas and passion for the district” is inspiring and the consultation process will continue to build on this over the coming months as the campaign gets underway.

“We’re looking for people to help us with research and evidence work, looking at the economic and social impact if Bradford is to win the 2025 title, and to contribute to the development of the new cultural strategy for the district,” he said. “We want to hear from people who have experience of economic or social research in the arts, cultural mapping, workforce auditing or tourism research.” Although the title is City of Culture, Richard says the economic and social benefits - generating new investment, jobs, resources and more visitors, and offering new skills and opportunities for people living, working and studying here - will benefit the whole district, and set a long-term cultural strategy in place.

Earlier this year, as part of the public consultation, individuals, businesses, cultural organisations, families and community groups were asked to make short videos presenting cultural life in different areas of the district. People attending arts and cultural events are also urged to post about it on social media, with hashtag #bradford2025.

Bradford’s campaign will lead to its first bid, in spring 2021. A shortlist will be announced in summer 2021 and a judging panel chaired by TV producer Phil Redmond will decide the winner. The announcement is expected in December 2021.
