MANNINGHAM fundraiser Nazim Ali has completed his Ramadan 14k run and smashed his £15,000 target by more than £21,000.

The feat also means Nazim has now raised over £275,000 for charity through a number of initiatives.

For his 10k fundraiser, Nazim ran a route beginning and ending at Lister Park to raise money to help build and repair homes in Malawi.

He said each home costs less than £500 and he hoped to fund 30 of them.

Instead his efforts have realised over £36,000.

"I can help more than 80 families out there now and I am so pleased about that.

"I ran with two injuries, a hamstring injury to one leg and a calf strain to the other.

"It meant it was my slowest Ramadan run yet at 1:11:41, but I am pleased to have got so much support.

"I have now raised over £63,000 during Ramadan over the last few years and £275,000 altogether for good causes in Malawi, including food aid and home repairs and rebuilds, and in this country."

Nazim was due to go over the Malawi this spring but the lockdown prevented him from going. He plans to go as soon as the restrictions are lifted and it is safe to do so.

Four times a year he collects gifts to support Bradford Royal Infirmary and Airedale Hospital's children's wards through his Creating Smiles Gifts initiative. These are distributed at Christmas and Easter as well as during Ramadan.

Businesses which support him include Saveco Cash and Carry. Nazim organises and distributes the gifts with the support of Keighley-based Green Crescent Aid UK.
