BUILDING work starts today on a new £15m leisure centre in the Spen Valley
Construction firm Kier has begun on site with laying the foundations for the new Spen Valley Leisure Centre.
The Spen Valley Leisure Centre facilities will include a 25 metre main pool, and activity pool, a large fitness suite, two fitness studios and a cycling studio.
To safeguard employees and the local community, Kier will be adhering to the Construction Leadership Council’s Site Operating Procedures which are based on the guidance issued by Public Health England.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Shabir Pandor said he was really pleased to see the start of work on this major capital development project.
"The leisure centre will become a major asset for the local community, attracting more visitors into Kirklees and will help to create a sustainable economy. I look forward to seeing the developments on site as Kier begin the construction phase.”
Phil McDowell of Kier Regional Building, said: “The commencement of works on site is a major milestone and we look forward to creating a new all-purpose facility, which will bring swimming and fitness under one roof."
The new facilities are due to be open for use in winter 2021.
