POLICE are hunting a group of quad bikers who are reported to have driven at speed and recklessly through Calverley and Saltaire this afternoon.

The group were first spotted on Ravenscliffe Road where they were filmed being pursued by two police cars at about 1.15pm.

A witness said there were about 20 lads involved.

Police reportedly set up a road block and managed to seize a couple.

The group then went on to Saltaire where another eye witness had to get out of their way quickly "to avoid being flattened".

He said: "They’ve been in Saltaire at about 1.45-1.50 too. Came storming up from Roberts Park bridge, a fleet of at least eight of them; made up of chicken chasers bikes and three quad bikes.

"They went off the Roberts Park bridge and up the small bank and then up Victoria Road. On the bank one of the quads narrowly got past a car coming down towards Salts Sports Club car park.

"We spoke to a girl by Saltaire Bakery and she said the group slowed down when they went past the bakery queue and they were taunting the people queuing.

"One of the kids riding on the back of another looked about seven or eight. They narrowly missed quite a few people walking around."

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "At 1:23pm earlier today police responded to reports of a number of males on trial bikes in the Baildon area acting in an antisocial manner.

"Officers are working to trace those responsible and conducting CCTV enquiries in the local area.

"Anyone with information should contact the non-emergency number 101 or alternatively, the live chat facility available on the Force’s website."
