TRACY BARLOW TRIAL

Coronation Street used City Hall as the site for the courtroom for Tracy Barlow's murder trial in the soap in March 2007.

Two alternative scenarios were filmed in case the verdict is leaked. In one, Tracy - played by Kate Ford - is convicted of partner Charlie Stubb's murder and jailed for life.

In the other she is found not guilty but has to flee Weatherfield after her mother Deirdre announces the truth - she murdered the builder in cold blood after misleading the rest of the street into thinking he was abusing her.

In the end, Tracy was jailed for 15 years. But she was released from prison in December 2010 after forensic evidence used at her trial was discredited.

The Telegraph & Argus reported at the time that confused soap opera fans have booed and jeered Kate Ford, who played Tracy, as she filmed her murder storyline in Bradford.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

NATIONAL TREASURE

Two of Britain's best loved actors, Dame Julie Walters and Robbie Coltrane, teamed up for a drama part filmed in Bradford in 2016.

The four-part series saw Coltrane play Paul Finchley, a popular celebrity facing sexual assault allegations, was Channel 4's most watched drama of 2016.

The drama was inspired by the historic sex cases involving Jimmy Savile and other high-profile figures.

Finchley's life begins to unravel when he is accused of raping someone in the 1970s.

Walters plays Finchley’s wife, Marie, who has supported her husband throughout his career, despite some tough times.

The drama follows Finchley and his family as they are put under the pressure of the investigation and and through the trial that follows.

It won the best mini-series gong at the Royal Television Society Awards and best mini-series at the 2017 TV Bafta's.

DAMON AND DEBBIE

Damon and Debbie was a three-part spin-off from the Channel 4 soap opera Brookside first broadcast in November 1987.

The series followed teen sweethearts Damon Grant and Debbie McGrath as they absconded to York to escape their disapproving parents in Liverpool who objected to the relationship because of the class divide. It ended with the death of Damon, who had been a regular character in Brookside since its launch in 1982.

In the second episode, the couple move to Bradford, where Damon works as a groundsman at Valley Parade. In Bradford, they stay with friends.

They also go to the city's then named National Museum of Photography, Film and Television.

ABC MURDERS

Big screen stars were in Bradford for the filming of a TV drama in 2018.

Rupert Grint and John Malkovich are among the cast taking part in the filming of a new Hercule Poirot drama for the BBC.

The Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited adaptation of The ABC Murders for BBC One saw filming took place at locations around Bradford, including City Hall, in 2018.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS

A building that had been used as an antiques shop and a butchers in the past at the junction of Toller Lane and Cross Road was the location for a sketch by a legendary comedy group.

It was seen in The Ant, An Introduction episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus, at the end of the Llamas sketch, which was recorded on December 7, 1969.

The scene starts with a shot of the shop - called Ada's Snack Bar - before the camera pans around the building to Cross Road where one of the show's stars, John Cleese, is sitting behind a desk. Cleese then introduces the next scene in the episode.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

VICTORIA

City Hall was again used as the backdrop in 2018, this time for ITV period drama Victoria.

Actors from the hit show, including Laurence Fox, were seen in costume in Centenary Square.

The third series of lavish royal drama Victoria, starring Jenna Coleman and Tom Hughes, saw new cast members including John Sessions as Prime Minister John Russell and Fox as charismatic Foreign Secretary Lord Palmerston.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

GENTLEMAN JACK

Sally Wainwright’s Gentleman Jack, a BBC drama about Halifax landowner Anne Lister, shot some of its scenes in Little Germany.

Actors including Suranne Jones were spotted in Cater Street in 2018, and nearby properties are being used by cast and crew.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

PEAKY BLINDERS

Bradford substituted for Birmingham in the fifth series of the popular BBC One drama last year.

City Hall was used as the House of Commons in this series, and also for a scene between Tommy Shelby and British Fascist leader Oswald Mosley, played by Hunger Games actor Sam Clafin, in the Lord Mayor’s office.

Peaky Blinders has been partly filmed in Bradford since the first series in 2013. Locations include the Midland Hotel, Undercliffe Cemetery, Little Germany and Lidget Green.

City Hall’s old cells have appeared in previous series too.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

EMMERDALE

The Yorkshire set soap has strong links with Bradford, with filming taking place in the district on numerous occasions.

Two scenes were filmed at The Broadway shopping centre in July 2017.

One of the scenes being filmed saw Jai Sharma, played by Chris Bisson, come out of the centre’s H Samuel store with a bag containing a mystery gift.

He was then seen stopping outside the shop and looking at his purchase before walking off.

The impromptu film set attracted a crowd of dozens of lunchtime shoppers.
