THIS YEAR'S Cross Roads Gala, originally planned for July 11, has been cancelled due to coronavirus.

Lees Cum Cross Roads Village Association today issued a statement saying it had been forced to take the "sad decision".

Spokesman Beverly Underwood said: "We will also not be running our afternoon tea sessions. We have also cancelled all our car boots for the year to keep everyone safe.

"As soon as we are allowed, we will organise a great big party for everyone in the village to enable us to get together, and get to know all those we have been communicating with via video calling."

Beverley issued a "great big thank you" to Cross Roads resident Tito Arana - a leading light in the Friends of Cross Roads Park - who has been organising regular activities via Facebook since lockdown began.

Beverley added: "He has been keeping our spirits lifted by running bingo, quizzes, race nights, photographic and art competitions, and fancy dress birthday deliveries with a wave and a gift.

"The Village Society wish to say to all our residents stay safe, stay connected and see you at our first un-lockdown party"
