AN employee from Bradford Bulls' charity got on his bike to collect 100th birthday cards for Captain Tom Moore as part of a charity challenge.

Shaun Flynn, Bulls Foundation's secondary school and camp co-ordinator, collected the cards from the club's junior cheerleading group, the Luvabulls, for his 26-mile bike ride challenge.

The young cheerleaders have been busy making the cards ahead of the 99-year-old Keighley-born World War Two veteran's milestone birthday this Thursday.

Flynn visited 20 of the Luvabulls member's homes, collecting more than 20 cards, travelling to Odsal, Low Moor, Cleckheaton, Wyke, Queensbury, Buttershaw and Wibsey. The cards will now be posted off to Captain Tom.

Flynn's cycle ride was just one of the events taking place as part of the 2.6 Challenge to raise vital funds to help to support the UK’s charities in these difficult times.

Events are taking place to replace what would have been last Sunday's London Marathon. The activities had to be based around the number 26 or 2.6 - the former is the length of the marathon in miles.

He was taking part in the fundraising feat to raise money for Rugby League Cares, a charity that helps the lives of people involved at every level of the sport, from junior clubs to current and former players.

Flynn said: "It was tough going cycling in the heat. It took me just under three hours to do it.

"I went around all their homes and they left the cards on their doorsteps for me to collect. It was also a thank you to the little girls.

"The Foundation's office said to me why didn't I do the ride as a 2.6-mile challenge."

The Bradford Bulls Foundation is the official charity of the Bradford Bulls.

The Foundation uses the power of sport to educate, motivate and inspire the local community.
