TEMPORARY changes to a dangerous road junction in Skipton could stay in place longer than planned because of the coronavirus lockdown.

Earlier this month, North Yorkshire County Council changed the layout of the Embsay and Eastby turning off the A65, stopping traffic heading in the Harrogate direction from turning right onto Harrogate Road and onto The Bailey.

Only traffic coming out of Harrogate Road onto the A65 is currently allowed to wait in the central reservation, so removing the potential for confusion with other drivers waiting to make the turn towards Skipton.

Drivers wanting to turn right off the A65 will instead have to continue to the A65/A59 roundabout at Skibeden, and come back along the A65 and turn left onto Harrogate Road.

The council says it may be necessary to leave the new layout in place beyond the planned three months, until July, depending on the lockdown, because it needed to be tested under ‘normal conditions’.
